One of the first questions homeowners ask us is: “Do you paint my cabinets in my home, or do you take them somewhere else?”

It’s an important question — because cleanliness, timing, and quality all depend on how the process is handled. At Joyful Cabinet Painting, we use a hybrid approach that gives you the best of both worlds: in-home precision for your cabinet boxes and off-site spraying for your doors and drawers.

Here’s how it works — and why this method delivers the smoothest, most durable finish with minimal disruption to your home.

Step 1: Careful Preparation in Your Home

We start by protecting your kitchen from top to bottom. Floors, countertops, and surrounding surfaces are covered with drop cloths and plastic sheeting. Then we label and remove every door and drawer to ensure each piece returns to its exact spot.

The existing cabinet boxes remain in place. Each surface undergoes a thorough cleaning process. Throughout the project, we maintain a clean, safe, and low-odor environment to minimize disruption to your home.

Step 2: Off-Site Spraying for Doors and Drawers

Once the doors and drawers are removed, they head to our dedicated spray facility, where we work in a climate controlled environment. This allows us to spray multiple fine coats of primer and finish using specialized equipment that produces a perfectly smooth, factory-quality finish.

Spraying off-site also means fewer fumes, less mess, and faster drying times. Each piece is allowed to properly dry before being returned to your home, ensuring a finish that’s both beautiful and long-lasting.

Step 3: On-Site Finishing of Cabinet Boxes

While your doors and drawers are being painted, we clean, sand, prime, and paint the cabinet boxes that remain in your kitchen. Our low-odor, high-performance coatings allow you to use  most of your kitchen throughout the process.

Expert painters apply several coats to the frames with a brush and roller.  We are able to get a ‘sprayed’ finish without spraying in your home avoiding the mess, dust and loss of access to your kitchen..

We pay close attention to edges, corners, and interior trim — the details that make the difference between an average job and a professional transformation.

Step 4: Reinstallation and Final Touches

Once the doors and drawers are fully dried, we bring them back to your home for reassembly and alignment. Hardware is reinstalled, doors are adjusted for perfect spacing, and everything receives a final inspection and touch-up.

This final stage is where the magic happens — everything comes together, and your kitchen looks brand new again.

Why Our Hybrid Process Works Best
